Extreme Fly Fishing

Standing on the Caines River bank late one fall enjoying an afternoon of fly fishing. What a life, eh? My two buddies were up the river a bit so every so often  I would look up to see how they were doing.  This time I looked toward them and I see them waving their arms and pointing at me or behind me so I turned around.

There was a big ole black bear sitting their like it was my pet. Just thinking about that moment gave a cold chill. I didn’t know if I should back away or crap my draws first. My heart was in my mouth. But before I could react the bear turned his head away, got up strolled back into the bush.

I had never even thought about bears much at all and I didn’t even hear him approach. When the boys come down closer I can hear them moving across the rocks and hitting the bushes but nothing from that bear.

I had a camera but that didn’t even have time to enter my head before he was gone and my buddies only thought about waving. One of them could have pulled out his camera. Heck they could have gotten a great shot of  me getting eaten. You don’t see that every day.

I imagine if I was getting any fishing action from the salmon he would have taken more of an interest.
